2008 Class Profile

The class of 2008 graduated 116 seniors who were admitted to 98 colleges and universities. The class attends 47different colleges in 21 states, and 62 percent of the class will attend colleges and universities outside of N.C.

Graduates

CCDS graduates are accepted to such selective schools as Harvard, Yale, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, Brown, Georgetown and St. Andrews (Scotland).

Scholarships and Opportunities

Based on academic merit, leadership, athletic ability, and artistic talent, the class of 2008 received scholarship offers of approximately $3.1 million.

Academics:

  • 5 students named National Merit Semifinalists and 3 advanced to Finalist standing
  • 1 student named National Achievement Semifinalist
  • 8 students were named Commended Scholars in the National Merit program
  • 3 students named College Sponsored National Merit scholars, 2 at UNC-Chapel Hill, 1 at Washington & Lee
  • 1 student selected for the Johnson Scholarship to Washington & Lee University.
  • 1 student selected as a Leadership Fellow at Elon University.
  • Students admitted to Honors Programs at Elon University, Furman University, UNC-Chapel Hill, University of Vermont, Southern Methodist University, University of South Carolina, and Tulane University.

Athletics:
Several students are playing varsity college sports in the following athletic programs:

Division I

  • Women's cross-country at Elon University
  • Field hockey at UNC-Chapel Hill
  • (FCS) football at Hofstra University
  • Women's soccer at UNC-Chapel Hill, men's soccer at UNC-Wilmington
  • Swimming at the University of Virginia


Division II

  • Field hockey, football, men's lacrosse, and swimming at Washington & Lee University
  • Football at Emory and Henry College
  • Football at Middlebury College

 

Fine Arts:

  • 1 student selected by flute audition to the Conservatory of Music at Carnegie-Mellon University.
  • 1 student selected by singing audition to Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music; Northwestern University's School of Music, University of Michigan's School of Music, Furman University's School of Music; University of Georgia's Hugh Hodgson School of Music; and to the University of South Carolina's School of Music.
  • 1 student accepted into the North Carolina School of the Arts for film.
  • 1 student accepted by Rhode Island School of Design in visual arts.
