The current Campaign for Students features a new Science Building on Bissell Campus. |

To ensure that facilities are commensurate with the high level
of programs offered, the school must continue to make capital investments
in facilities and equipment. Since 1990, CCDS has advanced a Master Facilities Plan that has brought dramatic improvements to learning spaces. Three successful capital campaigns over the past 15 years have allowed for continued excellence in academic programming:
Believe and Achieve: Campaign For Tomorrow (19992002)
Raised over $33.7 million toward the following projects:
Lower School
- Construction of Claudia Watkins Belk Hall
- Building of new Lower School administrative offices,
a guidance suite, and Extended Day offices
- Renovation of Bray Hall classrooms to house the
third grade
- Conversion of space in the lower level of the
Learning Center into a new Lower School computer lab
- Moving of Lower School science into renovated
space in the lower level of Belk Hall
- Conversion of space in the Learning Center for
the Educational Resources Program
Upper School
- Refurbishment of foreign language classrooms
in the lower level of the Levine Center
- Renovation of space in Barnhardt Hall to create
a new Upper School seminar room
- Building of a new Upper School student center
at the end of Dickson-Sanger Dining Hall
- Renovation of the Upper School courtyard around
the gazebo
- Construction of an Upper School fine arts classroom
building
All School
- Renovation of space in Barnhardt Hall to accommodate
English-as-a-Second Language program
- Renovation of the Gorelick Family Theater
- Construction of Bruton Smith Athletic Center
- Renovation of space formerly occupied by Lower
School science to create a suite to house Information Technology
The Bissell Campus Project (1997)
Raised over $2 million toward the following projects:
- Constructed new Sklut Arts and Activities Center and other Middle
School improvements. Sklut Arts and Activities Center houses:
- Two art rooms
- Computer and general music rooms
- Satellite computer room
- Cafeteria (which quickly converts to an auditorium for band,
choir, strings, and other performances. Is also used for visiting
speakers, speech contests, parents' meetings, and other special
events.
- Former art rooms in Rea Hall converted into administration offices
and a nurse's station
- Previous cafeteria converted into a room for band, dance, and
PE activities
Former computer room renovated for use as faculty work space
Expanding Future Opportunities/Next Step Forward Campaigns
(1993)
Raised over $11.3 million toward the following projects:
- Renovation of Dickson-Sanger Dining Hall, the Cannon Science Building, and Pell Hall
- Increased endowments for faculty salaries and student scholarships
- Improved athletic facilities (Belk Stadium and a new tennis
complex)
- Added much-needed classroom space on both campuses
- Constructed new playground areas for Lower Schoolers
- Established new endowments for the maintenance of Cannon Campus
- Built new classroom and administrative complex (Levine Center)
