About the Lower School
The Lower School provides a nurturing environment and a challenging
program to children from junior kindergarten to fourth grade.
We focus on the total child by recognizing that the arts,
foreign languages, science, physical education, and technology
are as important in a child's development as language arts
and math. We encourage creativity and critical thinking, teach
research skills, and build confidence through public speaking,
and theatrical productions, as well as small group and individual
research presentations in the classrooms. Our goal is to have
children develop a level of curiosity that motivates them
to become strong independent learners with a wide variety
of skills at their fingertips.
Community building in every classroom is intentional. Children
become compassionate, respectful, thoughtful class members
who value each other and learn from their peers. An important
component of the Lower School is service. Every grade level
crafts a program of service that is developmentally appropriate.
In the Lower School, we believe that when parents and teachers
work together on behalf of each child, all the children here
will maximize their learning and development, and achieve
success in all aspects of school.
